12th Street for Good: Trellis for Tomorrow is growing community

With goals of providing nutritious produce, garden education, and a peaceful space

12th Street for Good: Trellis for Tomorrow is growing community

September's highlighted 12th Street for Good partner is Trellis for Tomorrow, an organization operating out of Phoenixville, PA, with the goal of helping those who are food insecure have access to nutritious, seasonal produce grown locally.

This past August, the Trellis for Tomorrow team installed a new garden in our space that is now street level, replacing our rooftop garden. The team installed 8 large raised beds and mulched ground covering. It really transformed the space! Within a couple of weeks, the Trellis team and some 12th Street team members worked together to plant fall crops: red cabbage, romaine, kale, and swiss chard are some of the crops we anticipate to harvest near the end of this month.

The Trellis for Tomorrow team will return in the spring, which will kick off a full growing season for 2026! Their team has a network of 30+ community gardens that grow produce for those who need it. The goal for these spaces is not only to provide nourishing foods, but also to provide a place for building community. The gardens foster a place for people of all ages to come together and work towards a common goal.

If you’re interested in getting involved, there are many ways to volunteer with Trellis for Tomorrow in the Greater Philadelphia region. Additional information for volunteering or supporting can be found on their website here.

We are so excited to begin this journey with Trellis for Tomorrow - and will have volunteer opportunities for cultivating the garden this spring. Stay tuned for updates on our first harvest!
